It's a Girl!
Sharene Wassell was so inspired after first visiting S2C in 2014 with friends that she returned the following year to design a mantle with a yuletide theme. In 2016, she created a Valentine’s Day wedding complete with her original wedding dress and a cake topper from her parents’ own wedding. In 2017, as chair of Simsbury, CT’s iconic Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge, Sharene arranged an elaborate autumn-themed picnic display, including a painting and scale model of the bridge. Last year, her fun 1950s-themed table won the People’s Choice for Most Creative Table.
This year, Sharene’s table “It’s A Girl” celebrates the joyous, long-awaited arrival of her granddaughter, Aria. It will feature a buffet setting for a baby shower with Sharene’s mother-in-law’s Haviland Limoges china with a delicate 1950s pattern in soft pink and green tones. Heirloom silver and vases, hand-painted photo frames, decoupaged items and soft feminine touches will complete the table. Festive food will be sourced from Lynn Storey of Storeybook Cakes of Southbury.
When entertaining, Sharene has always enjoyed setting a fabulous table with beautiful family pieces and special touches. For the past five years, Sharene has devoted more time to her creative side, developing a seasonal decorating business after 30 years as a teacher. Growing initially through personal referrals, Sharene’s business started small with seasonal door arrangements and mantle decor. It has evolved to customized decoupage items and furniture to add character and charm to the home.
